Context
The last plenary meeting of the City Council on March 30 began with protests by the educators and families of the Ginesta Municipal School, the only nursery school in Sant Feliu de Llobregat with management outsourced from the its creation in the 2004/2005 academic year. This situation has created a violation of the working conditions of educators. The demands include the equalization of salary conditions and the improvement of nursery school infrastructure.
Outsourced management
La Ginesta nursery school has outsourced management, which means that a competition is periodically called with an initial budget provided by the City Council. This budget is tight and during the bidding process, companies that manage to reduce it further are awarded. Currently, the tender for the management of the Ginesta Municipal School is in the final period of the extension, which ends on August 31. It is necessary to negotiate the terms of the contract before the end of the current legislature.
Salary difference
There is a salary difference of 10,000 euros per year between the teachers at the Ginesta Municipal School and the other municipal teachers in Sant Feliu de Llobregat. This salary difference has been maintained for fourteen years, since the salaries of municipal educators have increased while those of the Municipal School of La Ginesta have remained frozen. Educators are asking for fair pay equalization.
Improvement of infrastructures
In addition to salary equalization, the educators of the Municipal School of la Ginesta are asking for an improvement of the infrastructures. Although there is a set-off scheduled for the summer to improve the centre’s external infrastructure, it is necessary for the nursery school to have adequate infrastructure in general.
Indefinite strike and municipalisation
In order to fight for their demands, the teachers of the Municipal School of La Ginesta have called an indefinite strike from April 12. The final objective of this demand is the municipalization of the school center.
