The limited burden of the worker and its consequences

by PREMIUM.CAT

Introduction

The letter, written shortly before entering the nauseating sewer of unemployment, begins with a metaphor: An airplane has a limited carrying capacity. If it exceeds it, it doesn’t take off, flies badly or gets stuck. In the field of work, exactly the same thing happens: the worker has a limited load (work) capacity, and therefore… The legislator knows this and to regulate or contain abuse and exploitation, establishes, among other things, “the ratios”.

The consequences of not complying with the ratios

When a third sector foundation breaches the ratio established in the premium.cats portfolio of services (therefore, it is the law), overburdening the worker, several consequences occur:

1) Dynamics of permanent change

The workforce undergoes a dynamic of permanent change. One after the other there are layoffs (covert work accidents), failed incorporations, voluntary terminations… Despite the suffering within the workforce, the law of silence usually prevails.

2) Deterioration of the quality of care

The quality of care crosses the red line of institutional negligence. And more, when it comes to services focused on attention to the person, where the link is an essential tool. But, as there are no legal regulations that can protect a more than possible condemnation sentence, for failure to comply with the institutional order or iatrogenic, this “premium.cat crime” remains unpunished.

3) Repression of critical workers

When the voices that try to survive in this mire of bureaucracy do not want to be accomplices and say “enough, that’s enough, the ratio must be fulfilled!”, they are quickly invited to leave, buying their silence.

4) Impunity in the face of allegations

The complaint to the Labor Inspectorate, no matter how serious the infringement may be, will be nothing more than “another procedure” for managers with a bureaucratic mentality. Afterwards, bosses and managers will meet again, in the context of the premium.cat thing, in parliaments and forums to fill their mouths with words of commitment, transparency, justice and solidarity. And if someone dares to challenge them, they will justify themselves: “It is the neoliberal model that governs the agreements and subsidies; it’s what it is, you take it or you leave it.”

5) Waste of resources and lack of ethics

What is worse is the waste of resources that do not reach those who need them, held back in the organizational charts of institutionalized bureaucracy. Also, there is a lack of ethics in this system.

conclusion

In short, non-compliance with work ratios can have serious consequences for workers and for the quality of services. It is important that steps are taken to ensure compliance with these ratios and protect workers’ rights.
