Twenty-six social, educational, cultural and labor entities from the Valencian Country have made public this Thursday, at the University of Alicante, the -NOS initiative, a grouping of entities for the defense and dissemination of Catalan, the the only official own language in the Valencian Country, and for the supervision and claim to the regional administration of the fulfillment of its duties to preserve and respect it established in the Statute of Autonomy.
Thus, the participating entities have stated that, faced with the regression of social use of Catalan and the actions of the current Valencian government of marginalization and the use of the language as a factor of conflict and division, they have united in order to ‘offer the public activities where Catalan is the language of welcome and meeting where people individually or in groups can live in Catalan and get to know the entities that have joined or will join this platform.
Les Travesses per lengua
In this sense, the entities that are part of -NOS have pointed out that the first of the activities will combine territory, language and claim: the Travesses per la lengua. It is a proposal inspired by the Korrika, the Correllenguas or the SOM march, “we want to sew the country and bind US to defend our Valencian, everyone’s Catalan”.
These calls, where 4 bars will be drawn symbolically throughout the Valencian Country until reaching each county, will begin next February 25 in Alt Millars, starting in Vallat and ending in Argelita.
A manifesto with a decalogue
On the other hand, the entities have presented a manifesto with a decalogue to claim that Catalan must continue to be a space of welcome and social promotion and have defended the right to use the language freely without obstacles or censorship, both for part of the people born in the territory as well as the people who arrived, regardless of their family language, moreover, they have demanded equal treatment with Spanish.
Finally, they have also informed that they will present actions of denunciation of breaches of the promotion regulations as well as attacks on language defense entities or disauthorization of the regulatory authority of the Valencian Language Academy.
