Writing as a refuge and expression
Leila Kasra, with a doctorate in law, has found in writing an intimate space to express his experiences. Her childhood in Iran was marked by exile, a fact that led her to keep in touch with her loved ones through letters and newspapers. These annotations have been his constant companion in the course of multiple borders.
A new work that explores identity
After having lived in various countries such as the United States, Switzerland and London, Leila has found his home in Barcelona for more than a decade. Now, he presents his first novel, “knots between the fingers” (Green Ray, 2025), through which he analyzes the complex nature of identity. According to the author, identity is a two -dimensional concept: the one that unites us to others and the one that distinguishes us.
The roots and fractures of identity
Kasra observes that identity is often transmitted from generation to generation, but can also be defined by legal documents such as a passport. “Leaving your country has a heart divided forever,” he reflects. However, she believes that this break can be a source of personal wealth, citing a Persian poet who states that “the crack can be the hole where the light comes in.”
A protagonist inspired by reality
The protagonist of his work is based on the story of a young woman who met in Switzerland. This young woman, who studies translation in Geneva with the aspiration to work in the United Nations, is abruptly obliged to leave the country. His life radically changes with the unexpected help of an unknown named Anselm, who brings him to exploring topics such as borders, both internal and external, and the fears that accompany the displacement.
A literary debut in Catalan
Kasra has chosen to make his literary debut in Catalan, although he speaks several languages such as Persian, English, French, German and Spanish. For her, polyglotism is a source of cultural richness: “Languages open doors and allow us to travel without borders,” he says. His passion for words leads him to devote time to finding the precise term that best captures what he wants to express.
A literary journey full of meaning
Through his work, Leila Kasra invites readers to reflect on the many dimensions of identity and displacement, using symbologies and metaphors that resonate. His novel is not only a story, but an exploration of the human condition in an increasingly globalized and complex world.
