The Consistory approves the budgets in an extraordinary session
Last Monday, the Consistory of Sant Feliu gave the green light to the new municipal budgets in an exceptional plenary session. Financial items have been managed differently compared to previous years, showing an unusual dynamic.
The verdict was 10 votes in favor, 2 abstentions and 8 votes against, reflecting diversity of opinion in the approval of the accounts for the current year.
Delay in preparation and uncertain economic context
Oriol Bossa, mayor of the locality, opened the session with an explanation about the delay in drawing up the budgets. He attributes this delay to an exceptionally uncertain economic context, which has led other administrations to extend the previous year’s budgets.
The financial landscape has been characterized by a notable deficit, amounting to 5 million euros. This imbalance is justified by several factors, such as the increase in unforeseen expenses and salary adjustments, among other aspects.
Expected income and expenses
Estimated income, from various sources such as taxes and transfers, stands at 49.96 million euros, representing an increase of 5.95% compared to the previous year, according to Bossa.
The expenses foresee an allocation of 1,098.98 euros per inhabitant, distributed in key areas for the development of the city.
Notable modifications and future prospects
During the session, a reduction in expenses was highlighted in certain areas and an increase in others such as social rights. The importance of strategic projects for the municipality was underlined.
The revision of the Catalog of jobs was also approved, with an increase in the number of places in the workforce. These changes are justified for various reasons, such as the creation of new positions and adjustments resulting from court decisions.
Vision from the opposition and recommendations
Several opposition councilors expressed divergent opinions regarding the approval of the budgets, highlighting issues such as municipal ordinances and civil servants’ salaries.
The constructive criticism emphasized the need to improve management and transparency in the distribution of resources, as well as in the planning of expenses to ensure the well-being of citizens.
Reactions of the different political forces
The different political forces have issued different assessments of the approved budgets, showing alternative positions and proposals for the future of Sant Feliu. The discrepancies and coincidences have been debated in a democratic and constructive framework.
