The fire has finally been controlled

The fire at the recycling plant located in San Antonio de Requena has been officially extinguished, as reported by the València Provincial Firefighters Consortium. After 18 days of arduous work, the fire has been controlled and no longer represents a threat to the safety of the public.

A large fire

The fire affected an area of approximately 40,000 square meters, with waste accumulation points up to 7 meters high. It is estimated that the volume of waste affected reached 135,000 cubic meters, mainly plastic. These dimensions made the fire especially challenging to control.

Extinction and coordination work

During the extinguishing phase, large amounts of water were used to extinguish the flames. Subsequently, a second phase was carried out in which heavy machinery was used to cover the areas affected by the fire with earth. These works were supervised by the Firefighters Consortium and preventive measures were implemented to guarantee the safety of the work teams.

Possible closure of the recycling plant

The Department of the Environment has warned that the fire and the irregularities detected could lead to the definitive closure of the recycling plant. A file has been opened to collect information and additional investigations are being carried out to determine the corresponding responsibilities and sanctions.

Message of tranquility to the population

The Minister of Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory, Salomé Pradas, has conveyed a message of tranquility to the inhabitants of Requena and Utiel. She has assured that the necessary measures are being taken to guarantee security and that work is being done on collecting information to make appropriate decisions.
