Feijóo criticizes Sánchez’s position before the Prosecutor’s Office
The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has expressed his discontent with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, accusing him of fracturing the Prosecutor’s Office and pressuring it to act against its convictions. This statement comes after the Board of Chamber Prosecutors supported, in a divided manner, the request for total amnesty for the leaders of the process, despite the fact that Spanish judges consider them guilty of embezzlement. This position, supported by the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, generated tensions in the control session of the Spanish executive in the Congress of Deputies, where Feijóo and Sánchez exchanged criticism.
Sánchez responds to Feijóo’s criticism
In response to Feijóo’s criticism, Pedro Sánchez defended democracy in Spain, although he recognized certain obstacles, such as the blockade by the PP in the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary. This situation triggered a verbal confrontation between both political leaders, with Sánchez questioning Feijóo’s loyalty to the Constitution.
Feijóo seeks an agreement with the PSOE
Despite the tensions, Feijóo expressed his willingness to seek an agreement with the PSOE regarding the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary. This position contrasts with the current situation, where the PP has hindered said renewal, maintaining a conservative majority that has been out of date for five years.
Sánchez promises to guarantee compliance with the Constitution
In his reply to Feijóo, Pedro Sánchez assured that the PSOE will ensure compliance with the Constitution, regardless of the PP’s position. He also regretted Feijóo’s criticism of democratic regeneration, pointing out that the party has promoted laws of democratic memory in some autonomous communities, contrary to those supported by the PSOE.
