Letizia’s Reign: A Revenge Foretold

From the moment Letizia Ortiz entered the Spanish royal family, she felt the cold disdain of the Bourbons. King Juan Carlos I, in particular, openly despised her, while the rest of her family kept her at arm’s length, with the notable exception of Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin.

Hurt by this treatment, Letizia vowed to take revenge when she ascended the throne. And she so she did she. As queen, she expelled the Bourbons from the crown, stripping them of their functions and privileges.

The Exile of Juan Carlos

Letizia’s revenge reached its peak when she publicly exposed the misdeeds of the emeritus king, Juan Carlos. Ashamed and humiliated, he was forced into exile in Abu Dhabi.

The Bourbon Backlash

In recent months, the Bourbons have launched a smear campaign against Letizia, claiming that she should be limited to a ceremonial role, while real power should rest with King Felipe.

Faced with this pressure, Letizia has given in, accepting her role as queen consort. Felipe, for his part, has been relegated to the background, overshadowed by the willpower of his wife.

Reconciliation: A Divided Family

Despite the campaign against Letizia, the Bourbons have begun to meet on numerous occasions, celebrating birthdays, graduations and other family events.

Even in the royal household, Letizia’s influence has faded. Felipe, tired of keeping the family away from him, has allowed the Bourbons to return to Zarzuela, where Queen Sofia and her sister Irene of Greece reside permanently.

The Future of Irene Urdangarin

In the midst of this family turmoil, Irene Urdangarin, daughter of Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin, has announced her decision to settle in Madrid after finishing her volunteer work in Cambodia.

The young woman, who has recently been photographed with her boyfriend Juan Urquijo, plans to settle in Zarzuela, where moving boxes have already been received.

Irene’s future is uncertain, but her decision to stay in Madrid suggests she has long-term plans in the capital. Her mother, Infanta Cristina, is concerned for her well-being and hopes that she will continue her college education.
