A look towards the urban future
The central government has given the green light to the study of the project for the modernization of the urban section of the old N-II and a section of the N-260 in Figueres. This initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Transport, seeks to humanize this important road that crosses the city, with the aim of improving its integration into the urban environment. The initial budget for these actions is expected to be around 5.5 million euros.
An expected boost
For years, Figueres has longed for municipal management of this road, especially Salvador Dalí Avenue, which concentrates a large amount of traffic. In 2022, the previous administration calculated that 8.2 million euros were needed for improvements in this sector and 1.4 million more for the adaptation of the N-260 that connects it with Vilafant.
A decisive step
At the beginning of last year, the General Secretary of Infrastructure, Xavier Flores, announced the state’s commitment to undertake these improvements before transferring ownership to the city council. Now, with the approval of the study, the process to commission the modernization project is underway.
Positive reactions
The mayor of Figueres, Jordi Masquef, has received the news with enthusiasm, stressing that the transformation of this road will be a significant investment that will improve the urban environment. Joan Armangué, commissioner for the Figueres Railway Transformation, agrees, stating that these actions will represent an important step in the integration of the western sector and the future intermodal station with the urban core.
