Catalan animated cinema at the Annecy Festival
Animated films are one of the big bets of the Catalan audiovisual industry and this is demonstrated at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. This prestigious event, which will be held from 9 to 15 June, is one of the most important events for animation worldwide. This year, Catalan animation cinema will be present with various productions and projects.
Selected Catalan productions
In the Official Feature Film Section, the Catalan film ‘Rock Bottom’ will compete for the award. This film, inspired by the music and life of Robert Wyatt, has already been selected in other international festivals. In addition, the film ‘Papallones negres’, a Catalan-Panamanian co-production, will compete in the Contrechamp Feature Film Official Section.
Projects in development
The Annecy Festival is also an opportunity to present projects in development. In this sense, two Catalan projects have been selected to participate in the MIFA Works-in-Progress. ‘Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake’ is a stop-motion animated feature film that explores the story of a girl and her family after being evicted. ‘Caramel’s Words’ is a story about the friendship between a boy and a camel in a refugee camp in the Sahara.
Other activities and collaborations
In addition to screenings and competitions, the Annecy Festival offers other activities and collaborations. There will be a talk on technology and animation, where the ‘Catwalk’ project will be presented. There will also be a section dedicated to women in animation, with the participation of two Catalan projects: ‘Jasmine & Jambo’ and ‘Wixi Against the Binary Lens’.
In summary, Catalan animation cinema has a prominent presence at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. With its productions and projects, it demonstrates its quality and creativity in this very important industry. It is an opportunity for Catalonia to show its talent and consolidate itself as a benchmark in the world of animation.
