A Festive Farewell for a Special Anniversary

Last Sunday, the community of Santa Maria closed a chapter of celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the title of basilica with a memorable event that merged culture, history and music in a single space. The event attracted a crowd of faithful and passionate about the heritage of Igualada, who filled the central nave, creating an atmosphere of reflection and celebration.

A Visual Journey Through Heritage

The day began with a conference presented by Pau Llacuna i Ortínez, entitled “The artistic values of Santa Maria d’Igualada. A visual journey through architecture, painting, sculpture and music”. Llacuna guided the audience through the rich history of the temple, highlighting its magnificent architecture and its most relevant ornaments, such as the side altars and the remarkable altar of the Holy Christ. His presentation was enriched with spectacular images that complemented his explanations.

An Immersive Experience

One of the most striking moments of the talk was the reflection on the Baroque altarpiece, where Llacuna made a comparison between the current work and the one lost during the Civil War. To intensify this experience, the lights in the basilica were turned off, and a spotlight illuminated in detail the aspects being described, generating an intimate atmosphere that captivated the audience.

Commemorative Musical Premieres

After the conference, attendees were able to enjoy the premiere of a new composition by Carles Prat Vives: “Instrumental Fantasy on the Motifs: Sonnet of the Holy Christ of Igualada, Millenary of Santa Maria of Igualada, Joys of Sant Bartomeu and Hymn to Santa Maria of Igualada”. The performance, performed by a quintet formed by Pol Berlinches (violin), Anna Enrich (guitar), Mateu Bauçà (harp), Adriana Alzina (cello) and Carles Prat on the organ, was a very emotional moment.

Symbolism and Tradition

The symbolism of the instruments was one of the highlights, as they matched those played by the angels in the Baroque altarpiece, adding a layer of meaning to the presentation. The piece, rich in nuances, was so well received that it was performed twice, giving the audience a moment of pure musical beauty.

A Message of Commitment and Value

To conclude this significant event, Mgr. Xavier Bisbal delivered a few emotional words, highlighting the importance of the Basilica of Santa Maria as the most valuable cultural treasure of the region. He called on the community to continue to care for and appreciate this heritage, remembering the responsibility we all have towards our history and culture.
