Iran’s reaction to the attack
The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has stated that his nation will act in response to the recent Israeli bombing with a well-defined strategy. In his words, he described the attack as an ‘act of terrorism’, which resulted in the death of the leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh.
Dialogue with Italy and calls for de-escalation
In a conversation through the X social platform with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, Araghchi stressed that Iran’s response will be decisive, but will prevent an escalation of violence. ‘We are not looking for confrontation, unlike Israel’, he said, while insisting on the importance of a constructive dialogue.
Requests for mediation
Tajani, for his part, has urged Iran to play an active role in the de-escalation of tensions both in Lebanon and in the Red Sea, in the context of the activities of Hezbollah and the Houthis. This mediation is considered essential to facilitate peace talks in Cairo.
The ceasefire as a starting point
The Italian minister emphasized that the establishment of a cease-fire in Gaza is key to building a sustainable peace in the region. ‘Italy supports all efforts to achieve a truce that allows de-escalation, the release of hostages and access to humanitarian aid,’ he declared.
Intensified conflict scenario
In the context of these tensions, Israeli forces have carried out one of their most forceful attacks against Hezbollah, in response to drone launches from Lebanon. Israel has justified its actions as ‘preemptive strikes’ against alleged militant targets, while Hezbollah has responded with hundreds of drones and rockets.
