A determined commitment to culture
Noemí Llauradó, president of the Tarragona Provincial Council, has expressed her firm belief in the need to finalize the Tabacalera library project. This initiative is essential to establish a new school and music conservatory there, a space that promises to revitalize the region’s musical educational offerings.
State commitment and urban transformation
In a recent meeting with the media, Llauradó requested unconditional support from the Ministry of Culture. This collaboration is seen as a key piece to facilitate the metamorphosis of the Tabacalera space. The Provincial Council has already completed the initial studies and has shared the conclusions with the Tarragona City Council, hoping that the latter can adapt the interior space for the new educational institution.
Expansion plans in Reus
In addition, Llauradó has revealed his intention to build an auditorium in Reus, a facility that would align with the community’s demands for a suitable space for concerts and musical events. This auditorium will also serve as the headquarters for the city’s School and Conservatory of Music, as well as the Reus Symphony Band.
Projects in the various regions
During the breakfast with journalists, the president presented an overview of the Provincial Council’s Spaces master plan, which includes projects in the regions of Penedès, Terres de l’Ebre and Tarragona. For example, the possibility of relocating or expanding the Tortosa School and Conservatory of Music is being studied, with the aim of adapting to the growing needs of the population.
Heritage recovery in the Penedès
The Provincial Council has also begun the recovery of a historic building of the Mancomunitat, which will house a new advisory space for citizens in El Vendrell, as well as a local headquarters for the institution’s secretaries and auditors in Baix Penedès.
Long-term vision for Tarragona
Llauradó has shared his ambitions to move the Provincial Council’s operational headquarters to the building in Plaça Imperial Tàrraco, a project that he hopes to see materialized by 2027. The architectural studies carried out so far have established the foundations for the necessary works.
Commitment to sustainability
In addition, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition is working on the tender for projects for La Savinosa and the coastal path, with the aim of starting the works in June. The president insisted on the importance of collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the City Council to guarantee the success of the Tabacalera project, which envisages an area of 6,000 square meters and an estimated cost of 11 million euros.
Culture as a driver of change
Llauradó defended that ‘culture is a transforming agent of the territory’, and stressed that these projects will not only benefit the cultural sector but will also contribute to the economic and social development of the region. ‘It is time for the Provincial Council to commit to the creation of an auditorium that has a territorial impact’, he concluded.
