Imminent transformation in the heart of Provençals
The Provençals del Poblenou neighborhood is on the brink of a significant redevelopment that promises to revitalize the area. According to reports from the City Council, the project for the green axis of Calle Pere IV is moving towards its final bidding phase. If the deadlines are met, work could begin between the first and second semesters of 2025, with an estimated duration of 16 to 18 months. This initiative will be integrated with the already renovated sections of this important street.
Priority for pedestrians in a greener environment
During the recent meeting of the neighborhood council, it was emphasized that the main objective of the works will be the continuity of the green axis, which will extend from the Parc del Center del Poblenou to the crossing with Bac de Roda and the Calle Selva de Mar. One of the most outstanding features of the project is the width of the new sidewalks, which will be set at nine meters, similar to those that have already been implemented in other sections of the street. In addition, a reduction in the space dedicated to vehicle traffic is expected.
Neighborhood claims and expansion of the project
The transformation of this area responds to a historic demand from the residents, who have insisted on the need to improve the urban space of Provençals. In order to meet these expectations, the project not only includes Carrer Pere IV, but also contemplates the remodeling of two adjacent streets: that of Marroc between Selva de Mar and Fluvià, and that of Selva de Mar between Peru and Morocco, which will also see an expansion of its sidewalks.
Facilitating connection and creating green spaces
With these works, the aim is to improve mobility within the neighbourhood, facilitating travel between the coastal area and the more inland areas. In addition, the creation of garden areas is being planned, including a new urbanization in Plaça del Sagrat Cor. The budget for these reforms exceeds nine million euros, reflecting the importance of this project for the community.
A project with history and multiple phases
To carry out this ambitious reform, it will be necessary to expropriate several properties, a process that the City Council has already begun to manage. The works to transform Carrer de Pere IV into a green axis linking Poblenou and Besòs began in 2015, initially focusing on the section closest to Poblenou, between Carrer Bilbao and Roc Boronat, and later extended to Besòs neighborhood, touching the Rambla de Prim.
