Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) has announced the start of the economic and financial feasibility study to build an underground public car park on the site of the old Palma bus station, located in Carrer d’Eusebi Estada.
Refusal to underground parking
The Association of Train Users has expressed its rejection of this new underground parking project at the old Palma bus station. According to the association, Palma already has enough underground car parks and there is a need to reduce motorized traffic, noise pollution and emissions of polluting gases. The Association proposes other improvements for the train service, such as more hourly coverage, more frequencies in peak hours and the expansion of the railway network.
Priority in improving the train service
The Association of Train Users considers that SFM must prioritize the improvement of the train service in order to absorb a significant part of private car users. They propose several improvements such as the removal of level crossings, the extension of the railway network to other locations and the increase of service capacity.
Applications to SFM and the Ministry of Mobility
The Association of Train Users makes the following requests to SFM and the Ministry of Mobility: not to invest in more car parks to encourage mobility by car in Palma, prioritize rail mobility to be more sustainable and speed up improvements and demands previously presented.
