The Situation of Vulnerable Families

The economic and social crises of recent times have exacerbated the situation of the most vulnerable families, especially that of children and young people. According to recent data from the Statistics Institute of Catalonia, 28% of children under the age of 16 are at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

The Pere Tarrés Foundation Initiative

In response to this reality, the Pere Tarrés Foundation has launched a scholarship campaign with the aim of allowing all children and young people to participate in educational leisure activities in the summer, such as camps and camps. These activities are not only important in the educational process, but also offer a restorative and disconnection space, especially for those who are in vulnerable situations.

The Foundation annually grants scholarships to around 6,400 children and young people with the aim of ensuring that none of them are left without this experience in educational leisure.

Inequality in the Colonies

In recent years, it has been observed that many of the boys and girls who participate in these activities do not have the appropriate equipment to cope with a stay in a boarding house. This creates inequality, as some of them do not have a backpack, sleeping bag or suitable sports shoes.

To address this situation, the Pere Tarrés Foundation has launched the solidarity campaign “No empty backpack” with the aim of raising funds to help the families participating in the scholarship camps finance the full cost of these activities.

The Positive Impact of the Foundation’s Actions

This campaign is just one of the many actions that the Pere Tarrés Foundation carries out to reduce inequalities in access to educational leisure. The scholarships awarded every summer, grouped under the motto “No child without colonies”, aim to ensure that all children can participate in these activities, thus avoiding the generation of more inequalities and allowing all to have the same educational and social opportunities .

The positive impact of these actions is reflected in the number of grants awarded, which has grown significantly in recent years, demonstrating the growing social need and the effectiveness of these initiatives.
