Call and Initial Procedures

After the recent elections on May 12, the 135 elected deputies have been summoned to the constitutive session of the Parliament of the fifteenth legislature. This session will take place on Monday, June 10 at 4 p.m., as established by the convocation decree signed by the acting president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès. In this first session, the deputies will elect the seven positions of the Board, including the presidency, the two vice-presidencies and the four secretaries.

Participation of Elected Deputies

The constitutive session will be held within the period established by law, which is twenty business days after the elections. In this session, the deputies will occupy the seats with a provisional distribution, subject to future agreements of the Bureau and the Board of Portaveus of the new Parliament. The participation of 135 deputies is expected, with diverse representation of political parties.

Requirements for Participation

Elected deputies must have previously delivered to the Parliament registry the credential issued by the Electoral Board, the written promise or oath to respect the Constitution and the Statute, the declaration of professional, labor or business activities and the public positions they hold. , and the declaration of assets detailing your assets. These requirements are fundamental for your participation in the constituent session.

Start of Session and Election Procedures

The constitutive session, initially chaired by the oldest deputy among those present, assisted by the two youngest as secretaries, will begin with the reading of the convocation decree. Subsequently, the seven positions of the Board will be elected in three rounds of voting, including the presidency, vice-presidents and secretaries. Voting will be carried out using ballots deposited in a ballot box, following a detailed and transparent process.

Office Election Procedures

In the first vote, the president of the Parliament will be elected, followed by the vice-presidents and secretaries in successive rounds. The procedures for the election of each position are detailed, including the absolute majority requirements and the processes in case of a tie. The importance of these processes at the beginning of the fortnight of the Parliament’s term is highlighted.

Final Considerations

The legislature that begins will be the fortnight, marking a milestone after the Parliament’s agreement in 2021. This change redefined the numbering of the legislatures, reflecting the historical evolution of the Parliament. With these procedures and elections, a new stage begins in the parliamentary life of Catalonia.
