Measures to Reduce the Environmental Impact of Single-Use Plastic
After a long legislative process in the European Union (EU), a new directive aimed at reducing the use of single-use plastics and its impact on the environment is expected to come into force in July. This directive will include specific measures, such as the mandatory attachment of caps to plastic bottles, in order to avoid the loss of caps and promote proper recycling.
Manufacturer Preparedness and Environmental Benefits
Manufacturers of single-use plastic bottles and containers have been preparing for months to comply with this new regulation. According to reports, it is estimated that this measure could avoid an environmental cost of 22 billion euros by 2030, as well as reducing 3.4 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
Other Regulations to Reduce the Use of Single-Use Plastics
In addition to this directive, the European Union has implemented other regulations to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics. These measures include a ban on certain plastic packaging from 2030, as well as the imposition of packaging reduction targets for Member States.
